Asylum 13 Medulla Oblongata Maduro

"Asylum Medulla Oblongata Maduro is the follow-up to the Medulla Oblongata [Natural], and it’s a most tasty treat indeed. Featuring a maduro wrapper hugging the authentic Corojo binder and filler this cigar is a step up in terms of body and flavor. Each one of these handmade booms out thick notes of black pepper, leather, espresso, and earth. Available in Medulla (round parejos) and Oblongata (box-pressed) allowing you to experience two uniquely nuanced versions of this showcase cigar." Named after the parts of the brain that control automatic life functions, this creation is owed to the collective of Christian Eiroa and Asylum founder Tom Lazuka. It is a very popular cigar for several reasons. First, it always delivers a satisfying deep flavor with an even draw.  Secondly, it is a great example of what both of these blenders have to offer. The Honduran tobacco of the Eiroa family is very prominent here, while the style and sizes of Lazuka are also very present, as well as the tendency of both to favor the heavier blends. Third, it comes in a large (pun intended) variety of sizes and shapes, which is not seen too often, From a normal Robusto sizde to a beefy 6 x 80, it can satisfy the preferences of most smokers. Trying the same blend in a regular roll vs a box pressed is a fun way to understand the differences in these styles as well.  For those returning to the brand and wanting a reliable smoke, or for those who have not had much of what C.L.E. has to offer yet, it is a good stepping stone that gives the smoker an idea of what to expect from the rest of the portfolio.
